"Here's what I've learned..."

It went on like a light switch. Just like that.

I'm sitting at dinner last night in a beautiful restaurant with wonderful company.

After my paleo cocktail of tequila soda and lime, the much dreaded bread man makes his way to our table with a basket of home made breads. Warm, beautiful and ready for the taking. What's not to love about a basket full of bread?  But here's what happened in the moments after I said "no thank you". I finally realized I'm in charge.'i know it sounds crazy but I finally understood that the responsibility, all of it, is mine on what I eat and how I treat my body. I can't explain it to you on what this "aha" moment was like. Those three little words "no thank you" changed everything for me. Everything I've been working for just came together: all the sweat, the food journals, the discipline, the cravings. All of it. It just came into this empowering moment for me and my entire being just shifted. It's not even about OMT anymore, it's about how I treat myself each and every day and knowing that I deserve this.

And I can't imagine not having you in my corner. You are the reason I am here today, tall proud and wearing a size 10. You have taught me so much and I can't imagine my life without you in it.

Thank you for it all, and thank you for what we haven't even shared yet. 

This is it, I'm never going back. Ever.

Mike's training program has changed my life.  After dealing with years of downtime from injuries and surgeries, I realized it was absolutely crucial to rehab not only my knees, but my entire body.  The results I've made are nothing short of miraculous.  I have gained in strength, agility, balance, core strength and flexibility.  I have never been so motivated, not only to workout, but to work harder and more efficiently.  Mike's intuitive style, strict emphasis on safety and form, and ability to simultaneously focus on short as well as long term goals is astounding.  For example, after recovering from ACL replacement & meniscus repair in late summer, I was able to ski and snowshoe by early winter.  Mike's training is tough, but fair and fun -- always challenging, always different -- he pushes you past where you think you can go, and your results are your reward.  I am 40, with the body & heart rate of a 20 year old, in the best shape of my life, and have an amazing level of confidence that I did not think possible.  "Life is a journey, not a destination", and I look forward kicking ass every step of the way.  Thanks, Mike!!!!!

I have been one of Mike Carozza's clients for five years.  Mike has taught me about the importance of exercise and how by making this a regular part of your routine, you can become a better person. I have worked with Mike on everything from weight training programs to a variety of exercises to improve strength to flexibility training which has affected my entire body. I herniated two disks in 2001 when I had first moved to Stamford. I was in bed for three months. After three months I went back to work part time but I was told that I would never run, play tennis or play tennis again. I was depressed and gained over 75 pounds in the next six months. I was unable to do any of the activities that I enjoyed. I met Mike Corozza and in 2008 I started working out with him. In 2008 I was diagnosed with CAD. My carotid arteries were blocked 60 – 70% on both sides. My doctor told me that it would never get better but I could keep it from getting worse. My cholesterol was really high and so was my blood pressure. Mike had told me that I could do everything that the doctors said that I couldn’t. I decided to participate in the second Operation Muffin Top. I have continued to participate in all of the OMTs. I have lost 10 – 15 pounds in every contest. This OMT I have lost 12 pounds and I am 15 pounds away from my goal weight. At this point in my life my blood pressure is normal and so is my cholesterol. The greatest achievement was that my blockage in my carotid arteries is completely gone. I am healthy and I have work out six days a week. I can run, play tennis and do all of the things that the doctors said that I would never do. I turn 60 in 3 months and I am healthier that I was 20 years ago. Thank you Mike,

"Dear Carozza Fitness Stamford: This weekend turned out to be a huge personal goal for me and one of the BEST days of my life and I could never have done this had it not been for you and everyone at Carozza! Doug Cahill, you are a remarkable person. You were the one that convinced me I could do tough mudder when I thought I couldn't. That one simple but profound sentence you said, "overcome your fear", still resonates in me. Yes, fear...it can be so crippling in so many aspects of our lives. Yesterday, standing on that ledge, I was thinking, it's literally just one step away of conquering my deepest fear...it was time to let it go and let all my other fears, failures and uncertainties go...and so I JUMPED!! I came out of that water screaming at the top of my lungs feeling completely liberated!!! What an unexplainable feeling!! I truly felt on Top of the World!! What makes even more special was the opportunity to share that moment with the BEST group of teammates I have ever encountered! The commradary, determination and hard work were second to none! How can I not jump when all I could see at the bottom were a bunch of inspiring, muddy and supportive teammates rooting me on to take a leap of faith! And that I did! Thank you Carozza Fitness Stamford from the bottom of my heart and to all the new wonderful friends that I have made."

I started Carozza Fitness last October (been a year – WOOHOO!) after leaving another gym after a horrible experience. I almost gave up working out completely (imagine ME giving up my fitness?!). Luckily I reached out to G who introuduced me to the Carozza family. I was so hesitant and had such a guard up starting CF til I realized this gym was completely different. The trainers and members actually care, really truly. And at the same time they kick my ass in that gym, challenge my weight choices and weaknesses (my core!). I came in with a bit of knowledge but a year later I have learned so much from Mike and his team about kettlebells and barbells that I’m actually educated and a GAZILLION times stronger. I see it, Mike sees it – then he makes me get a heavier weight…I love it!! Fast forward to signing up for Tough Mudder in February…I still didn’t even know everybody at the gym but I had been wanting to do the race so I figured – why not? I had no idea it would turn into one of the best experiences of my life with the best group of people….we were on a mission, every single one of us…to finish…together. Mission accomplished people!! Being able to run the majority of that race after all the running I had done was such a huge payoff for me. I was nervous when I saw my team, I was so nervous I wouldnt be able to keep up but I did and for that I am so proud! But I also know that if I had to stop or needed a break, they all would have waited for me. On the other side seeing so many teammates like Rose and G and Helen conquer fears….amazing…watching Joanne NOT give up on that very very first wall before we even started and getting over…priceless! Seeing Mike let himself get muddy and dirty…heartwarming (lol – sorry, I had to)! In all seriousness, this is something I’ll never forget and I know I’ve made lifelong friends at this gym. A gym that kinda saved my sanity a year ago. Mike, Doug, Sweet Scuba Baby Phil – thanks for getting our ass in gear and helping us tear up that course…can’t wait til the next!!"

"I did it, yup; I earned my 2nd bright orange Tough Mudder head band. Something I realized is that there’s such a great feeling crossing a finish line with a TEAM that has got your back every step of the way. SHOUT OUT TO DOUG CAHILL who I kept hearing in my head all night “Let’s GO G”. To my team mates waiting for me as I get out of the numerous water obstacles (did I mention I have a fear of heights) Now I know too many it may not seem like such an accomplishment but to me it was. I didn’t do this obstacle in TM Mt. Snow 2011 and on Saturday that was my GOAL. So many people have completed this obstacle course, so it may not seem like such a difficult feat. But it’s so much more than that. Anyone can go through those obstacles (or opt out of them) and finish the 12+ miles. For me, it sort of symbolized how far I’ve come in life. It wasn’t just 12 miles for me. My body, my mentality, my strength, everything…I have grown so much. Crossing that finish line was like the icing on my cake. Very proud moment now what if I hadn’t even tried it because I was scared or doubted myself? I wouldn’t have known that I could do it. There’s such a sense of accomplishment, and not just about training hard for whatever it is you are working on — but more about yourself as a whole. You believed in me! "10 months ago, if you had told me that I was not only going to participate in a Tough Mudder event, but actually finish it, I would have jokingly brushed off the idea and quietly hidden my disappointment in myself. It’s hard to express just how far I’ve come from that first day at CF, last December. I met and sat down with Mike for a few minutes, and we talked about all the things that I could accomplish working with him. In minutes, I was hooked. Scared shitless, but hooked. And I’ve never looked back. This Tough Mudder meant so much more to me that just an intimidating and challenging obstacle course. It showed me just how far I’ve come as a person, a team player, an athlete and a competitor. It pushed me to face obstacles I didn’t think I could overcome and it pushed me into the arms of my beloved team mates, who, with their hands reaching out, taught me so much in those 4 hours. I will be forever grateful for every ache and pain and for the strength and courage I now know I posses. To hear Phil’s constant encouragement and to know that I made Mike proud is something that I will cherish forever. No number on a scale can beat the affection, the respect and the up most love I have for all of my family at Carozza Fitness. Thank you for pushing me, encouraging me and for believing in me when I couldn’t."

"Thanks, Mike! I know you hear this about 19 times a day, but I don't think I can thank you enough for everything you and your team has helped me with over the past several months. I'm astonished at my own growth from February to now, and I feel so strong and empowered now. Your gym offers so much more than strengthening and I know I want to be a much bigger part in giving back what you guys give every day. I'm not sure I've ever felt so strongly about not wanting something to stop and just wanting to keep building and growing. The Tough Mudder was a life changer--I'm glowing today (despite my extreme lack of movement or thought.) I feel empowered, excited, and completely prepared for anything life may throw at me. I've reached a point of speechlessness - I can't thank enough people or even begin to express the enormous amount of gratitude I have for my new family at Carozza Fitness. One of my favorite parts of TM was running with Phil and both of us reaching each mile and declaring our new personal running record. I will also forever be in debt to Wendy for the amount of times she balanced me while I was stuck in the mud and especially for the amount of times she allowed me to wipe my nose on her shirt. "There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other" and wiping the mud out of your nose on your teammate's shoulder is one of them."

"Ok so I had time to think about my Tough Mudder experience and I wanted to say thank you to CarozzaFitness Stamford and all the wonderful people I have met over there. They have given me so much inspiration to break down barriers that I thought would never come down. Part of the reason why I wanted to do the Tough Mudder was to become more confident in myself and you guys have made my journey incredible. Sometimes I look back to where I was a year ago or even 5 years ago and I am not the same person. That spark to try something new has come back and I have Carozza Fitness to thank for it. I still have work to do but I am sure that when the next Tough Mudder or any event I choose to sign up for will get this much dedication and my energy."

I started seeing Mike shortly after I injured my right wrist taking snowboarding lessons in VT. After my surgery, I felt discouraged because I struggled daily with basic things we all take for granted such as washing my face and using a fork and knife. I went to physical therapy two to three times a week and lost my motivation to work out because I had felt so limited. Mike really inspired me to challenge and push myself physically even though I was limited in what I could do. He was patient and knew exactly which exercises would help strengthen my wrist and help it to heal effectively. In the beginning, I could only row and do exercises using very light weights. Each day, I would do a little bit more and was surprised when I could get through more challenging exercises and workouts. Now, I am fully healed and can do more advanced training such as pull ups, burpees and olympic lifting. I admire Mike so much because he demonstrates his passion everyday and pushes individuals to be their most healthy and physically fit selves! Thanks so much Mike!

What can I say? It’s a love hate relationship. I had it all- aerobic classes, yoga, Lotte Burke and heated yoga. I could never get the results I so wanted- then I met Mike Carozza. I set up an appointment to meet with him to see what personal training is all about. Well, I’m hooked! I have been training with Mike for 3 years now. Never have I gotten results like I have with him as my trainer. I have definition where I never thought I could have it. Mike is a perfectionist, every position has to be perfect or I’ll hear about it. He is so encouraging while bringing you past boundries unimaginable. He also makes it fun but will not let you slack off. Mike is an incredible trainer building a thriving business which is a testament to his skills. I look forward to every session, knowing he will have worked me to my full potential and I leave with the anticipation of future progress. Thanks for the buns!

I arrived at Carozza fitness in desperation, trying to avoid a back operation that would result in limited movement for the rest of my life. As a 39 year old mother of two, keen tennis player and sportswoman, I was prepared to try anything to ensure this did not happen, and core strength training seemed to be a good starting point....but where to find an experienced trainer who could really look after me? Six weeks in, flexibility work with Mike gave me back my initial movement - helped enormously by his physical therapy training background. By three months of twice weekly training, I was pain free and gaining physical strength. After 6 months, my core strength is nothing short of a miracle! I am back on court playing 6-10 hours a week of competitive tennis (which has improved dramatically thanks to my overall fitness and strength) my back no longer bothers me, and the only pain I experience is one that turns to amazement or delight when I triumph in a new exercise at the gym! An 8-year long rotator cuff problem has finally resolved due to my new upper body strength, and I took my first short run a few weeks ago. Mike's training program has really turned my life around - I can see myself avoiding surgery for the foreseeable future, looking after my body in ways I never knew how to before, and continuing to stay fit and healthy for many years to come. If you want more than the average gym work out with more than the average gym personal trainer, then Mike is your man!

Michael and Carozza Fitness has changed my life and I would not be where I am today without them. Coming to this gym to train with Michael was the best thing I could have done for myself not only physically but mentally and emotionally. Since training with Michael, I have lost about 40 lb and inches keep melting off. Being able to finish a workout is the best feeling in the world. Michael has pushed me to limits I thought I would never reach. Not only has Michael been a great trainer but he has been a great motivator as well. He keeps me honest with myself and never lets me doubt my abilities. I needed someone that wouldn't let me quit and quit is a word that is not in Michael's vocabulary. His staff is also very helpful and knowledgeable. I have participated in numerous events through the gym which include 5K's and stair climbs. I have also started added classes to my work out schedule. In October, I face my toughest challenge yet with participated in a Tough Mudder and I know with his help and the other trainers I could get through this. This past year has created a lot of mile stone moments for me and I don't plan on slowing down anytime soon.

“Just Results”- and so much more… As a working mom of two young children I wanted to get back into shape but didn’t have much time left in my day.  I wanted to get the most out of my workouts, increase my endurance as well as my over all strength and power.  Since working with Michael Carozza and the other trainers at his facility for the past year and a half I can honestly say that I am in the best shape of my life. The workouts are never boring and I am motivated to push myself because of the results that I continue to see on a daily basis.  Michael and his staff are encouraging, professional and creative in their fitness programs.  I have trained with Michael, participated in several OMT’s, and taken classes with the other trainers at his facility. Not only have they helped me to achieve my fitness goals but they have also helped me to reach a higher level of overall health and fitness awareness.  As I continue to set new fitness goals for myself (road races, fitness event…) I know that Michael and the trainers at his facility will continue to be the support network that helps me achieve them.

"So it's been a little over a month since I've been at CF full time. My skills and PRs have progressed like crazy and I don't think it's just a coincidence. I didn't think there would be any difference, didn't really even cross my mind but wow! Just wanted to say thank you for keeping it real (meaning - I don't need sugar coating. Of course I enjoy the accolades but also don't mind being called out) and exciting. The dedication to coaching and the thought process behind the programming is very refreshing for me. I know I'm one of the regs and we've all become good friends and I know you know my level of heart and dedication to being awesome but I do not take your knowledge for granted. I've been on the other side. So thanks. You are all very much appreciated by me! Here's to lots more work, learning and bus rides that need to be done. XO!!"

Just wanted to express my gratitude to all of you at carozza fitness!! I have never felt better and could not have done this without the support and motivation from all of you. I am so happy and thankful to be part of such a wonderful gym. You all are amazing :)

Mike and Doug,

Just a quick note to say a purposeful thank you to both of you for the impact you have on the level of my fitness and my lifestyle. I just realized that on April 1st I will have been attending Carozza Fitness for one year. I had only intended to stay long enought to train for the NE Tough Mudder last year.  One year later, I have changed my eating, my approach to fitness and body maintenance, and am in the best shape I have been since I was 18 years old!  You both have had specific impact on my lifestyle.  Thank you for giving me feedback and encouragement. I am a better me beacuse of you guys!

2014 goals I need your help with:

1) get past 3 strict pullups

2) master kipping

3) at least 3 strict HSPU

PS Doug, I am now 48 pages into becoming a supple leopard!
